History
Fire Station 5 was constructed in 1950 and is approximately 9,640 square
feet. The station is currently located at 6621 W. Manchester Ave in
the Westchester area. The station currently houses a Task Force,
Rescue Ambulance and a Battalion Chief for a total staff of 10
Firefighters, 2 Paramedics and a Chief Officer.
Fire Station 5’s district is six square miles and is a mix of residential and
commercial usage. The
district includes the Los Angeles International Airport and Loyola
Marymount College Campus.
Reason for Project
The existing fire station is overcrowded and its main systems are
antiquated. The site is also too small to accommodate a replacement
Regional Fire/Paramedic Station.
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.
