History
Fire Station 62 was constructed in 1950 and is currently located at 3632
Centinela Ave. The station is approximately 4,190 square feet and
serves an area of approximately 6
square miles in size. The station houses an Engine Company
and an EMT Rescue Ambulance for a total staffing of 6 firefighters.
When
Fire Station 62 was built, the area was mainly a residential area known
for its ocean view homes.
With the passing of time, the area has grown considerably and has
added a commercial district.
Reason
for Project
The existing fire station is overcrowded and will not adequately allow for
future additional staffing and equipment. In addition, the fire
station's main systems are antiquated. The current site is too small to accommodate
a replacement Standard Fire/Paramedic Station necessitating a new location in the immediate
area of the existing fire station
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.
