History
Fire Station 64 was constructed in 1951 and is located at 118 W. 108th
Street. The station is approximately 8010 square feet and houses a Task Force and
two Rescue Ambulances for a total staffing of 11 firefighters and 2
paramedics. Fire Station
64’s district is approximately 5.1 square miles and contains many an older residential
units along with a commercial area.
Reason
for Project
The existing fire station is overcrowded and occupied beyond capacity.
Today the Fire Station is unable to house
the assigned resources creating the necessity to park the Rescue Ambulance
outside on the front apron of the Fire Station.
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.

Community planning census information and Fire
Department historical incident data have been used to project resource
workloads. It is projected that the number of responses will
increase 18.2% for apparatus assigned to Fire
Station 64 by the year 2010. |

Community planning census information
indicates that the population growth for South Central
L.A.
has increased steadily and is projected to increase to 288,156, which
is a 19.6% increase by the year 2010.
