History
Fire Station was built in 1936 and is
located at 1525 E. 103rd. Street. The station is approximately 5,760
square feet and houses an Engine Company
and 2 Rescue Ambulances for a total staffing of 4 firefighters and 4
paramedics. The station
services the community of
Watts
and covers an area of approximately
2.97 square miles. The
district is well known for its high fire incident ratio and emergency
medical calls. When the station was first built the area consisted of
mainly single family dwellings and small businesses.
The area has become more heavily
populated with the passing of time.
Reason for Project
The existing fire station is too small
and does not have adequate room to allow flexibility in resource
deployment. The station is overcrowded
and its main systems are antiquated along with the site being is too small to accommodate
a replacement Standard Fire/Paramedic Station.
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.

Projected Resource Workloads
Community planning census information and Fire
Department historical incident data have been used to project resource
workloads. It is projected that the number of responses will
increase 10% for apparatus assigned to Fire
Station 65 by the year 2010. |
Service Area Population Growth
Community planning census information
indicates that the population growth for
Watts
has increased steadily and is projected
to increase to 288,156, which is a 19.6% increase by the year 2010. |
