Reason
for Project
The current Valley Training Center located at Fire Station 89 was built many
years ago. The Fire Department has outgrown the current site, which
is only about 2 1/2 acres, and the current classroom area is not large
enough.
The planned location of
new Regional Fire/Paramedic
Station 81
and Valley Training Center is the City owned "General Motor’s property."
This property is 4.6 acres and will allow for the development of a
San Fernando Valley Drill Tower Training Facility.
This dual function facility will serve as the primary training site
for all San Fernando Valley firefighters and paramedics, as well as serve
as a Recruit Training Drill Tower location for newly hired firefighters
and paramedics. The ability to
train at a centralized location within the San Fernando Valley, rather
than attending training sessions near downtown Los Angeles will result in
a significant response time reduction in the event of a major emergency.
Evaluation
Of Current Facility
Deficiencies noted by Bureau of
Engineering to current site include: Space, Seismic, HVAC, Type V, Electrical, Plumbing, Building
Code, ADA, Fire Protection Systems, and Separate Gender Facilities.
Service Area Population Growth
Community planning census information indicates that the population growth
for Panorama City district has increased steadily and is projected
to increase to 115,461, a
25.4% increase by the year 2010. New
