History
Fire Station 77 was constructed in 1941 and is located at 8943 Glenoaks
Blvd. It is 4,295 square feet and houses a Paramedic
Engine Company that is staffed by 4 firefighters and 2 paramedics.
The station services the community of
Sun Valley
and covers approximately 14 square
miles. The district is well known for its heavy brush, Metrolink and
railroad traffic. When Fire
Station 77 was originally built, the area was mainly farms and orchards.
It has since become a residential and heavy industrial / commercial
district.
Reason
for Project
The existing fire station too small and will not allow flexibility to efficiently
house the necessary equipment and personnel. The station is overcrowded
and its main systems are antiquated. In addition, the current site is too small to accommodate
a replacement Standard Fire/Paramedic Station.
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.

Projected
Resource Workloads
Community planning census information and Fire
Department historical incident data have been used to project resource
workloads. It is projected that the number of responses will
increase 10.7% for apparatus assigned to Fire
Station 77 by the year 2010. |
Service
Area Population Growth
Community planning census information
indicates that the population growth for
Sun Valley
has increased steadily and is projected
to increase to 95,212, which is a 23.0% increase by the year 2010.
