History
Fire Station is currently located at 4230 Coldwater Canyon Ave. Fire
Station 78 houses a Paramedic
Engine Company that is staffed by 2 firefighters and 2 paramedics.
The station services the community of
Studio
City and covers approximately 4 square
miles. The area is well known
for its shopping along
Ventura Blvd.
as well as its ranch homes in the
winding hillsides. The
original station was destroyed by the 1994 earthquake, and is now a
temporary trailer with a detached apparatus shed that houses Engine 78.
Reason
for Project
The existing fire station was
constructed only as a temporary measure until the fire station could be
reconstructed. It is too small and is overcrowded. In
addition, the site
is too small to accommodate a replacement Standard Fire/Paramedic Station.
Evaluation Of Current Facility
Areas of deficiencies that were noted by Bureau
of Engineering survey determined problems with: space, seismic, heating
and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing,
building code, American Disabilities Act (ADA), fire protection systems, and
lack of adequate separate gender
facilities.

Projected
Resource Workloads
Community planning census information and Fire
Department historical incident data have been used to project resource
workloads. It is projected that the number of responses will
increase 11.6% for apparatus assigned to Fire
Station 78 by the year 2010. |
Service
Area Population Growth
Community planning census information
indicates that the population growth for
Studio
City
has increased steadily and is projected
to increase to 86,863, which is a 25.7% increase by the year 2010.
