Floodplain Management

The goal of this website is to provide information on various topics about floodplains and floodplain management. Floods are the most common hazards in the United States according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its impact on Los Angeles County in particular is seen due to the numerous floodplains throughout the area. Providing residents with information on these hazards is the first step to helping prevent the loss of life, disruption, and damage caused by floods which is the main goals of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The program was established by Congress in 1968 and administered by FEMA. The NFIP makes federally backed flood insurance available to the communities which enforce flood plain management ordinances.
