Mount Lee Communication Facility Site Improvements Project (Archived)

The Mount Lee Communications Facility Site Improvements Project will upgrade the current emergency response system at the communications facility located on City property at the summit of Mount Lee within the boundaries of Griffith Park. The project includes the following main components: construction of a new, 30-foot by 60-foot communication shelter with ventilation system, lighting and separate power; construction and/or improvement of electronic security systems and air-conditioners; installation of two self-contained diesel fueled generators and diesel tank; and installation of back-up battery systems. Mitigation measures have been included to ensure that any impacts are reduced to less than significant.

Based on an Initial Study, the City Council adopted a Mitigated Negative Declaration on October 31, 2012 and a Notice of Determination was filed with the Los Angeles County Clerk (CF 12-1512).

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), codified at 42 U.S.C 4321 et seq., a Draft Environmental Assessment was prepared and made available for public comment. The project is subject to NEPA review because it is being funded, with Federal funding available from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Bureau of Justice Assistance adopted a Finding of No Significant Impact on September 7, 2012.
