Venice Beach Security Lighting (Archived)

Local Coastal Development Permit Application No. 09-04. Venice Beach Coastal Planning area. CD11. The applicant, the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department, proposes to install five solar-powered security lighting structures in the vicinity of the Graffiti Art Walls near Market St. and Ocean Front Walk at the Venice Beach recreation facility. The lighting structures are self-contained units which are intended to improve public safety and security in the area of the Graffiti Art Walls. The project must obtain both a local Coastal Development Permit from the City Engineer and also a Coastal Development permit from the California Coastal Commission.

The Bureau of Engineering has published a Final Staff Report which concludes that the proposed project is consistent with the California Coastal Act as implemented by the provisions of the Los Angeles Municipal Code. The Final Staff Report recommends that the City Engineer issue the local Coastal Development Permit for the project.

On September 16, 2011, the City Engineer issued a Notice of Decision approving with conditions Coastal Development Permit Application 09-04.

A State Coastal Development Permit was approved by the California Coastal Commission on April 11, 2012.
